Well, you’ve had the baby now, so everything else should be a breeze right? The newborn photography session should be no exception, so relax and let Baby Grow Photography come to you, and follow these simple tips for an easy and stress-free newborn photo session…

Newborn Photography Tip 1

Crank up the heating. Newborns really do feel the cold, especially if some of their clothes have been stripped off for photo session, so make sure that the room is going to be a comfortable temperature for them.

Newborn Photography Tip 2

Choose a simple outfit. A plain white babygrow is a beautifully simple and timeless way of dressing your baby for the photography session. You can always change them into another set of clothes towards the end, but most photographs look best (in my opinion!) in plain white, or just a nappy.

Newborn Photography Tip 3

Be prepared to be in some of the pictures yourself. It is amazing the number of people who say “No I don’t want to be in the pictures”, only to find that they love the pictures with them in the best! It can be a wonderful way of showing the special bond between you and your baby, even if your face is not visible and you’re only being used as a ‘prop’. Get involved in the pictures – you won’t regret it!

Newborn Photography Tip 4

Have a favourite toy handy. Newborns attention span is limited to say the least, but a squeaky toy or rattle can help attract their gaze towards the camera (even if only for a few seconds!). This is all the time a good newborn photographer needs to capture that special moment.

Newborn Photography Tip 5

Don’t panic if your baby isn’t perfectly behaved. Your photographer knows that babies work to their own agenda, and will expect to take lots of little breaks for feeds, nappy changes and the odd tantrum too! Baby Grow Photography does not set any time limit on a newborn session, so there is no pressure – I’ll stay until the job is done and some fantastic baby pictures are in the can!
